Job Description

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

    1. Independently lead and coordinate the implementation of protection project; monitor implementation of GBV activities to verify work is proceeding according to established plans; analyse implementation difficulties and make recommendations for adjusting implementation modalities and work plans to best reflect changing environment on the field.
    2. Work in close coordination with the operations leads, case management, protection monitoring, and community-based protection thematic teams towards coordinated GBV response, prevention, and risk mitigation interventions in line with GBV minimum standards and guiding principles. 
    3. Regularly research, follow-up, compile, analyse and present information/data on national, regional and international developments, reports, legislation and other relevant documentation, highlighting noteworthy issues for the consideration of appropriate parties.
    4. Monitor budget expenditures; verify availability of funds and maintain a proper record of approved project budgets and their revisions.
    5. Coordinate and monitor the financial, administrative and technical aspects of the project in line with IOM policies and donor requirements.
  1. Plan, coordinate and conduct capacity building workshops for protection and IOM field teams on GBV risk mitigation, guiding principles, safe disclosures and minimum standards in coordination with the Safeguarding Unit, where necessary.
  2. Participate in inter-agency fora on GBV, Gender; maintain effective liaison and coordination with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders and share timely analysis and updates with programme manager towards supporting IOM’s work on GBV.  
  3. Coordinate the preparation of correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, narrative and financial reports; monitor that status reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner.
  4. Identify and document good practices and lessons learned; contribute to the development of Standard Operations Procedures (SOP), guidance notes, key messages, tools, assessments/surveys, related to thematic expertise.
  5. Supervise and provide guidance, training and on the job coaching to field teams, providing regular field support through missions.

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Law or Human Rights or related fields from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience.

 

 or

High School diploma with seven years of relevant professional experience.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience in providing direct support to survivors and those at-risk of GBV in line with survivor-centered approaches.
  • Experience in the set-up and management of women and girls’ safe/friendly spaces within an emergency response is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience in coordinating and supporting multi-sectoral responses to GBV.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

 

SKILLS

 

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of approaches and standards on GBV.
  • Demonstrated understanding and practical experience in safe and ethical data collection, analysis and conducting assessments.
  • Knowledge and experience in guiding and coaching field teams on mobilization of community members and gatekeepers on GBV issues and concerns through a do no harm approach.
  • Communication, writing, and coordination skills are essential to the role

 

Languages

 

  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).
  • Working knowledge of Pashto or Dari is required.
